These beautiful dwarf cactus from the highlands of central Mexico to 1900 m forms small clusters of elongated stems, well armed with reddish brown to whitish spines. Many bright pink flowers are formed in a broad band below the top of the stem. Mammillaria 'backebergiana' subsp. ernestii is adaptable and easy to grow under a wide range of conditions.
